The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has flagged a fake customer care account purporting to belong to the authority.
Taking to X on Saturday, the KRA Corporate account warned Kenyans that the recently created KRA Care account was a scam, and they should not engage with it.
“SCAM ALERT! Don’t be their ‘Esteemed Taxpayer’, please! Our real account, KRA Care, took an unplanned vacation with the hackers,” the warning read
“Stay alert; don’t share your info with impostors. Report and block any suspicious accounts.”

The warning came after the fake account was created, purporting that it had been created after the actual KRA Care account had been hacked.
It even linked the KRA website, tagged the KRA Corporate account and even added the official KRA Care phone number to entice social media users.
However, the page had not been verified and had fewer than 100 followers, a clear red flag indicating it was a fake account.
This warning appeared just a day after the genuine KRA Care X account was taken over by hackers on 31 October.
Even then, the authority warned Kenyans against engaging with the new account that had taken over and to use the Facebook page for customer care services in the meantime.
“The official KRACare X (formerly Twitter) account has been hacked and its handle changed to “StandsX”. Members of the public are strongly warned not to engage, share personal information, or send money to any messages or posts from this account, as they are fraudulent,” KRA warned.
“The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has launched urgent efforts in collaboration with X to retrieve and secure the official account. Official updates will be shared through verified KRA communication channels.”
The authority has since seemingly recovered its verified KRA Care account, with the handle back and no unscrupulous activities spotted on its X page.
