Breaking: APC Wins All 25 LG Seats In Niger Council Polls

The Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of all 25 chairmanship positions in the just-concluded local government elections held across the state on Saturday.

The commission also announced that the APC won 271 out of the 274 councillorship seats, consolidating its dominance across the state’s political landscape.

In a statement released to journalists and signed by the Commissioner for Operations, Barrister Mohammed Liman, NSIEC said the declaration followed the successful conclusion of collation and verification processes across all local councils.

“After a thorough review, the Commission ratified the results, confirming the election of candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all chairmanship positions,” Liman stated.

He listed some of the newly elected chairmen to include Dr. Mustapha M. Jibrin of Chanchaga Local Government, Usman Manko Mohammad of Bida, and Sayuti Ibrahim Halilu of Agaie, among others.

According to the statement, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to win only two councillorship seats in Tafa and Rafi Local Government Areas, while the election in one ward was declared inconclusive pending further review.

Liman noted that the commission’s decision was guided strictly by electoral laws and operational guidelines, adding that all Returning Officers had submitted their final reports without any record of major disruptions.

The NSIEC official revealed that arrangements were underway for the formal presentation of Certificates of Return to all newly elected chairmen and councillors.

“Stakeholders will be duly notified regarding the date and venue of the presentation,” he said, assuring that due process would be followed at every stage.

The commission also commended security agencies, election observers, political parties, the media, and the electorate for their cooperation and peaceful conduct throughout the exercise.
