November 06, (THEWILL) — Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Thursday presented a budget proposal of N515.58bn for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.
The proposal, tagged Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation, is designed to cover capital projects as well as recurrent, overhead and personnel costs.
The new budget marks a significant increase from the N320.81bn approved for the outgoing year.
A breakdown of the proposal shows that N192.13bn, representing 37.3 per cent of the total budget, is allocated to recurrent expenditure, while N323.46bn, representing 62.7 per cent, is earmarked for capital expenditure.
Governor Buni said key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure — including roads, electricity and water supply — received priority attention in the current year and will continue to do so in 2026.
He announced plans to establish a dialysis centre in Gashua to support kidney patients, as well as construct a new General Hospital in Potiskum to ease pressure on the Specialist Hospital.
“Government will sustain investments in critical sectors to enhance service delivery and improve the livelihood of our people,” Buni said.
The governor urged the Assembly to give the budget speedy consideration and approval.
