Amazon enters Nigeria’s discount retail market with new ‘Amazon Bazaar’ app

Amazon has officially launched its Amazon Bazaar app in Nigeria, bringing its ultra-low-price shopping model to one of Africa’s fastest-growing e-commerce markets. The move marks a significant step in Amazon’s expansion across the continent, where online retail demand is surging.

The new app is designed to offer affordable products across a wide range of categories, from electronics and household goods to fashion and groceries, mirroring the low-cost, high-value shopping experience that has made the “Haul” platform popular in other markets.

According to Amazon, Amazon Bazaar will provide special discounts, flash sales, and bundled deals, giving Nigerian shoppers access to high-quality products at competitive prices. The company also highlighted that the app’s user interface is tailored to local consumers, with easy navigation, secure payment options, and fast delivery services.

‘Today, we’re excited to announce a new standalone shopping app, called Amazon Bazaar, which is now available in Nigeria. The app is also now available in 14 new destinations: Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.’’ The company said in a statement on Friday.

Amazon also disclosed that the Bazaar app aims to democratize online shopping by making products more accessible to price-conscious consumers while maintaining Amazon’s commitment to reliability, convenience, and customer satisfaction.

The launch comes as Amazon intensifies its focus on emerging markets, competing with local platforms such as Jumia, Konga, and PayPorte, which have dominated Nigeria’s e-commerce space. Analysts note that Amazon’s entry could shake up the retail landscape, particularly in budget-friendly shopping segments.
