Barau FC has alleged that its player, Nana Abraham, was stabbed in the neck by a pitch invader during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Katsina United.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina during Barau FC’s 1-1 draw with the home team.
Speaking with TheCable, Ahmad Gwale, the club’s director of media operations, said the attack happened shortly after Barau FC equalised in the 69th minute.
According to him, “one person from the Katsina United bench or one of their fans” invaded the pitch and struck Abraham on the neck.
Gwale claimed the assailant was armed with “something like a sharp object”.
Images circulating on social media show Abraham lying on the pitch in visible pain, with blood stains around his neck.
The match was temporarily halted after the incident but resumed shortly after, with Abraham substituted and taken for medical care.
Gwale confirmed that the injured player is currently receiving treatment.
