Na so Mr. Nowel Ngala, the Chief Commercial Officer, come carry mouth talk for news conference, share the matter with journalists. He yarn say SmartLynx no follow correct procedure, na out of the blues dem just carry the planes when Air Peace dey busy manage dem for peak travel period.
Ngala no fit hide di frustration wey dey vex am well well. He talk say dem enter wet-lease arrangement with SmartLynx because 13 of their own planes dey for maintenance overseas. E clear say dem expect to help passengers travel smooth, but instead na gbege dem see. ‘These aircraft had already been rostered for scheduled flights,’ he go on explain, ‘their sudden removal was not only unprofessional but also fraudulent and premeditated.’ Na serious matter, my people! You mean, say dem no even fit send text or message? This one don pass email matter o!
Dem dey report say Air Peace don already pay over $5 million to SmartLynx – include more than $1 million as security deposit. Wetin make the matter even choke, na say SmartLynx already sabi sey dem go take dem planes from Air Peace wey dey manage am. As dem just vanish like that, na so wahala don start for Naira and dollar level – over $15 million losses dey on ground.
Ngala talk say dis kind action no just dey affect Air Peace alone; e don touch other airlines wey dey lease from SmartLynx in other parts of di world. “We consider this action by SmartLynx to be a serious breach of contract,” he say, dey complain sey lack of proper arrangement dey give Nigerian carriers wahala for international leasing. Na wetin we sabi wey no suppose happen again! Get your facts right, dem no fit run away like SYPHAX Airlines wey vanish with $2 million from Air Peace before.
But wait o, no be only wahala dem bring come. Ngala con drop hint say some of their own aircraft don finish maintenance, and two don don land back. Starting next week, dem dey look forward to resume full operations across all dem routes. ‘We appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers,’ he conclude, dey assure everybody say dem go do everything to prevent wahala like this from happening again and, of course, hold all d defaulting partners accountable.
