Tinubu, Jonathan Lead National Tribute as Victor Attah Marks 87th Birthday in Abuja

November 15, (THEWILL) — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former President Goodluck Jonathan are expected to headline a high-profile gathering of national leaders in Abuja as elder statesman and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, marks his 87th birthday.

The event, scheduled to hold at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, will feature the public presentation of Attah’s biography, Attah: Architect of a New Democratic Dawn, authored by veteran journalist Dr. Dele Sobowale.

The book will be formally unveiled by Mr. Sam Amuka, Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers.

Speaking at a pre-event briefing in Uyo on Friday, Founder of the Uyo Book Club, Dr. Udeme Nana, said Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, will serve as Chief Host.

According to Nana, “The Chairman of the occasion will be no less a personality than former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, while the sitting President, who was a colleague of Obong Attah, will also join in honouring him.”

He said the biography captures Attah’s life, leadership philosophy, and contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development, particularly his tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 1999 to 2007.

Nana also highlighted Attah’s long-standing advocacy for true federalism, resource control, and equitable distribution of derivation funds to mineral-bearing communities.

“Obong Attah consistently championed the universal application of derivation, arguing that every state in Nigeria possesses one mineral resource or another,” he said.

He described the former governor as “arguably one of the most visionary leaders Nigeria could have had,” noting that Attah’s transformational ideas and landmark projects—including major road infrastructure, housing development, and the Ibom Resort—continue to reflect his developmental foresight.

“Some of his projects were executed, while others extended beyond the timeframe of his administration, but his vision remains clear in what Akwa Ibom has become today,” Nana added.

The Abuja event is expected to draw political leaders, technocrats, and associates from across the country, marking a significant national tribute to Obong Victor Attah’s legacy at 87.
