Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, November 14, Winnie, who is the late Raila Odinga’s lastborn child, delivered a stern rebuke to a faction within the party, accusing it of attempting to sell out ODM to unnamed interests.
Why Winnie Odinga angered Robert Alai She declared that she would not stand by and watch ODM be auctioned to the highest bidder.
Her remarks did not sit well with Alai, who responded with a scathing attack on the EALA legislator Saturday morning, November 15.
Alai, who represents Kileleshwa Ward in the Nairobi County Assembly, argued that Winnie lacked the authority to determine the ODM party’s future direction after Raila’s passing.
According to him, being the late leader’s daughter does not qualify her to counsel the party.
Millie later came to Winnie’s defence.
How Millie Odhiambo defended Winnie against Alai Speaking at the ODM@20 jamboree in Mombasa, the MP criticised Alai for targeting a grieving individual and for attacking a woman as a show of bravado.
She pledged to stand by Winnie against characters who are intolerant of opinions different from theirs.
Millie said she would take any attacks on Winnie personally and act on them as the aggrieved.
“I would like to warn someone who attacked Winnie Odinga. As a women’s defender, I want to say this, whether it is Alai or whatever the name is, I have seen he likes harassing women. But where Millie Odhiambo is, we will deal with you head-on. Where Winnie Odinga is concerned, that is the heart of Baba, and it is against the Luo culture to attack a person who is still mourning. Right now, Winnie has been tears after seeing Baba’s photo, and you are attacking her. I want to tell you, you attack Winnie Odinga, you attack Millie and the ODM women,” he said. What Winnie Odinga say about ODM Winnie had called out a section of the ODM party, blaming it for stoking internal discord.

Winnie affirmed that ODM would stay true to its founding mission of championing social justice rather than conforming to the prevailing political order.
She urged the youth to take an active role in shaping the party’s future and reiterated ODM’s dedication to national progress, anchored in the vision of its founders.
