ZAMFARA: APC Chieftains Challenge Suspension In Court

ABUJA: Three All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Zamfara State have challenged their suspension from the party for attending Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front’s stakeholders meeting in Gusau.

The suit was filed against Alhaji Tukur Danfulani Maikatako Gusau – APC Zamfara State Chairman and Alhaji Ibrahim Bama Shinkafi – APC Chairman, Shinkafi Local Government Area.

The suspended APC leaders include Hon. Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi – APC chairman, Shinkafi South Ward, Kabiru Ibrahim – APC Welfare Secretary, Shinkafi Local Government and Ibrahim DD Kurya – representative of People With Disabilities (PWD), Shinkafi Local Government.

The affected party leaders sought a court declaration that they are bona fide members of the governing party.

They also asked the court to declare their suspension unconstitutional, illegal, null and void.

A statement by the state chairman, Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front, Hon. Yushau Abdullahi Mada, to Daily Independent on Sunday read, “An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, servants, assigns or any other person from taking further steps to suspend, expel, intimidate, harass, terminate the membership or discriminate against them.

“An order of court directing maintenance of status quo and suspension of all actions to do with suspension, expulsion, intimidation, harassment, termination of membership or discrimination against them, the subject matter of this action, pending the determination of the substantive suit before the court.”

The plaintiffs said they were elected at APC congress in 2022 and their tenures subsist, stressing that they belong to the political camp of Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, the leader of Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front.

They said they were suspended by word of mouth, by the party state Chairman without proof they violated the party constitution.

They also alleged that the party leadership in the state failed to give them an opportunity to defend themselves.

According to them, all efforts made to stop the suspension failed, leading them to approach the court for redress.
