Fintiri, Mutfwang kick against expulsion of Wike, others from PDP

Two governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa and Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, have openly opposed the move to expel Nyesom Wike and several other party figures shortly after delegates cast their ballots at the PDP convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Fintiri, who chairs the committee for the PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention, said in a Saturday statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, that the push for expulsion ran contrary to the party’s collective interest.

He warned that he would not endorse any action capable of deepening existing rifts within the PDP.

“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration.

“I believe that peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party,” he said.

Fintiri appealed to party leaders to prioritize mending fences and rebuilding trust, stressing that his commitment remained firmly rooted in promoting unity, stability, and progress within the PDP.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang also distanced himself from the motion, explaining that it never came before the PDP Governors’ Forum or the National Executive Committee for discussion prior to being tabled.

According to him, the proposal did not represent his stance on the issue.

He argued that pushing key members out of the party at a sensitive moment such as this would be counterproductive. Instead, he emphasized the importance of dialogue, unity, and collective effort in repositioning the PDP to confront its internal challenges.
