Armed men suspected to be bandits in the early hours of Monday attacked the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and abducted 25 students.
They also killed a staff member in the incident that occurred at about 4:00 a.m. in the area.
The spokesman for the state police command, Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, confirmed the assault in a statement in Birnin Kebbi.
He said: “The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination.”
He added that Hassan Makuku, a staff member, was fatally shot, while Ali Shehu sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand.
“Following the attack, the command deployed additional tactical squads, supported by military personnel and local vigilantes, to pursue the attackers.
“They are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests with a view to rescuing the abducted students and possibly arresting the perpetrators of the dastardly act,” the spokesman stated.
