The Federal Government has officially opened the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a flagship initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda that offers Nigerian tertiary students up to ₦50 million in equity-free funding to turn innovative ideas into scalable businesses.
Announced on Monday by the Federal Ministry of Education, the program targets student-led ventures in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences (STEMM) with high commercial potential.
Speaking at the launch, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said President Bola Tinubu challenged the Ministry to “find the next Nigerian unicorn inside our campuses.”
“We are not funding mere projects — we are planting the seeds for future billion-dollar companies that will redefine Nigeria’s economy,” Dr. Alausa stated.
Successful applicants will receive:
Up to ₦50 million in non-dilutive (equity-free) grants
Intensive incubation and acceleration programs
One-on-one mentorship from top entrepreneurs and industry leaders
Full access to cutting-edge tools and resources
In a groundbreaking partnership with Google, the application and evaluation process is powered by Google’s Gemini AI through custom “evaluation agents” that ensure transparent, fair, and efficient screening of submissions.
Every student who successfully submits an application will automatically receive a one-year free Google Gemini Pro license and a premium learning resources to boost technical and entrepreneurial skills
The Ministry described the initiative as “the most ambitious student innovation funding program in Nigeria’s history,” designed to position Nigerian students as global leaders in technology and entrepreneurship.
Application is now open to all students enrolled in accredited Nigerian tertiary institutions.
