Turaki-Led PDP Postpones Inaugural NWC Meeting After Violent Clash at Secretariat

The Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday postponed its inaugural National Working Committee (NWC) meeting after violent clashes at the party’s Wadata Plaza secretariat forced a temporary suspension of activities.

National Chairman Kabiru Turaki, who addressed journalists after finally gaining access to the premises, said the meeting, initially slated for Tuesday, had been shifted to Wednesday, 19 November 2025. He blamed the unrest on “those determined to undermine democracy and progress.”

Turaki commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police for providing the security that enabled party leaders to enter the secretariat and brief the press.

He noted that he had earlier alerted the police to widely circulated social media flyers announcing unauthorised NEC and Board of Trustees meetings by individuals he said were no longer recognised by the party.

“We were able to enter the secretariat because of the security provided,” Turaki said, thanking the FCT Commissioner of Police for honouring his commitment. He added that the postponement was necessary to maintain order and allow the party to regroup.

Prominent figures who accompanied Turaki to Wadata Plaza included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, alongside other governors, National Assembly members, former governors, ex-ministers, Board of Trustees members and state chairmen, all of whom he said came out in solidarity.

Turaki reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to unity and stability, noting that the rescheduled NWC meeting would focus on restoring internal cohesion and strengthening the party ahead of future political battles.

The postponement comes amid an intensifying leadership crisis that has split the PDP into rival camps.
