The Imo State Police Command has clarified as misleading, the ongoing viral video currently circulating on social media, in which the footage shows several young individuals, riding motorcycles in Nekede Poly Junction axis of the State capital, with false claims suggesting that they are jubilant suspected Boko Haram members arriving into the State in their hundreds.
The Command in a press statement endorsed by DSP Henry Okoye, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO urges the public to disregard the circulating video.
They described the viral video as the handiwork of mischief makers attempting to distort facts and create unnecessary panic.
The incident they said actually happened along Poly Road, Nekede, where security operatives had gone to clear an illegal vehicle and motorcycle parks.
The video the Command observed was maliciously taken out of context and is now being shared to incite fear and heightened tension among residents.
The Command vehemently advised members of the public to refrain from sharing or amplifying such misleading content.
” Its only aim, is to sow apprehension and destabilize the peace of the State”.
The Command further assured all residents that robust security measures have been put in place to prevent any form of bandit attack or security breach, stressing that the safety and security of Imo residents remain their top priority.
