NDLEA Arrests 28 Suspects In 13 States For Drug Trafficking

Chairman/Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) has announced the arrest of 28 suspects across Delta, Imo, Abia, Anambra, Adamawa, Plateau, Kano, Ekiti, Ondo, Niger, the FCT, Lagos, and Edo states following a series of intelligence-led counter-narcotics operations nationwide.

Although no cash recovery was disclosed, the agency confirmed that operatives seized 7.6 million pills of tramadol, 76,273.4kg of cannabis including Colorado, Loud and Skunk, 252.2 litres of codeine syrup, as well as compressed blocks, bags and multiple consignments of psychoactive substances intercepted during the operations.

The report, released on Sunday and signed by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi, stated that a total of 7,648,112 pills of tramadol, exol-5 and other opioids were recovered in the coordinated nationwide raids.

According to the NDLEA, traffickers relied on concealment models such as stuffing drugs inside rubber sandals, hiding consignments in commercial vehicles, embedding psychoactive substances inside forest warehouses, transporting drugs through interstate courier chains, and using urban markets as distribution hubs.

The breakdown of the operations showed that on Monday, December 1, 2025, NDLEA operatives in Adamawa intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus (MGU 554 XB) along the Maraba–Mubi axis arriving from Jos, Plateau State, with 1,577,112 capsules of tramadol and exol-5 concealed in jumbo bags filled with rubber sandals and slippers.

Two suspects, Kabiru Buba (25) and Hamza Abubakar (32), were arrested. That same day in Kano State, operatives arrested Mudansir Rabiu (27) along the Zaria–Kano road with 197,000 pills of exol-5.

On Tuesday, December 2, NDLEA’s special operations unit stormed Omuo-Ekiti forests, where officers destroyed 14,654kg of skunk and arrested Yusuf Iliyasu (50) and Okumu Chinedu (26).

Another operation in Asin-Ekiti, Ikole LGA, led to the destruction of 54,300kg of skunk stored in two warehouses, while 28.3kg was secured as evidence.

That same day, operatives raided Igoba Forest in Akure North LGA, Ondo State, recovering 2,483 compressed blocks and 247 bags of skunk weighing 5,442kg, and arresting Jacob Omodowo (66), Joy Oluatobi Peace (24), Babatunde Olamide (40), Echi Fidelis Joseph (57) and Ankrah Akano (56).

In Lagos, officers also arrested Susan Okoro at the Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, with 104.1kg of skunk.

By Wednesday, December 3, NDLEA officers on patrol at Orogwe, Onitsha–Owerri Road, Imo State, seized 1.2 million tablets of tramadol 225mg from Kelechi Nwakocha (35), who was transporting the consignment loaded in Aba, Abia State, and headed to Onitsha, Anambra State.

In the FCT on the same day, operatives intercepted 22kg of Colorado at the Abaji expressway, leading to a follow-up arrest of Ali Blessing (33) at Jabi Park.

On Thursday, December 4, NDLEA patrol teams along the Mokwa–Jebba Road in Niger State seized 500kg of skunk hidden in a Mercedes-Benz van (MGU 614 XB) and arrested the driver, Amos Yakubu (46).

The following day, Friday, December 5, officers in the FCT arrested Aliyu Usman (39) along the Kwali–Gwagwalada expressway with 24kg of skunk and 573,500 pills of exol-5. In Lagos, operatives also seized 351kg of skunk from Izuchukwu Usulor in the Onipanu area.

The operations peaked on Saturday, December 6, when a major warehouse raid in Oko Market, Asaba, Delta State, yielded 3,874,000 pills of tramadol (225mg and 100mg) alongside 252.2 litres of codeine syrup.

Other operations conducted within the week included the recovery of 217 pouches of Canadian Loud weighing 113kg from Ezenwa Udoka at Ladipo Market, Mushin, Lagos.

In Edo State, operatives seized 447.5kg of skunk from two Honda Accord cars at Agho Forest, Akoko-Edo LGA, leading to the arrest of Dada Adedara Babawibi (56), while another raid at Isiefve community, Ohuwunde LGA, produced 315.8kg of skunk and the arrest of Stanley Obasuwa.
