Adeleke Reveals When He’ll Announce New Party for 2026 Osun Governorship Election

Adeleke Reveals When He’ll Announce New Party for 2026 Osun Governorship Election

Osun State is already heating up ahead of the 2026 governorship race, and a major political move is now in motion.

Governor Ademola Adeleke is preparing to publicly declare the political party he will run under for the next governorship election.

According to information confirmed to POLITICS NIGERIA, the official announcement has been fixed for Wednesday.

This development comes as the countdown continues toward the December 15 deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of governorship nominations.

The 2026 election has been slated for August 8, and political activities across the state are beginning to intensify.

Sources familiar with high-level consultations within the governor’s camp disclosed that extensive deliberations have been ongoing in the last few weeks.

The governor’s inner circle has reportedly settled on a new platform believed to give him the best chance of retaining power in 2026.

One of the sources noted that all arrangements are almost completed, but the governor prefers to be the one to personally unveil his decision.

“Everything is now set for the governor of Osun State to unveil the new platform that would keep him in the Government House beyond 2026. The agreement has been reached, and the date set aside to unveil the governor and the new party is December 10,” the source emphasised.

Behind the scenes, POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that two major parties have been under serious consideration.

Discussions were held with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while another set of meetings explored possibilities with the Accord Party.

Both options reportedly went through multiple internal assessments where potential benefits, likely voter reception, and the political risks attached to each party were evaluated.

There were also strategic conversations about aligning with former governor Rauf Aregbesola, especially through the ADC.

While some political actors were in support of such an alliance, others warned that the move could expose Adeleke to political baggage linked to the former governor.
Those concerns reportedly forced the governor’s camp to weigh the proposal more carefully.

Despite the back-and-forth, insiders confirmed that Adeleke is committed to beating the INEC deadline.

His declaration on December 10 will formally position him ahead of other aspirants as the state moves fully into election mode.

This major shift follows Adeleke’s earlier resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His exit was a result of lingering party crises that dragged on for months without resolution.

With the INEC deadline now only days away, the governor is expected to make a decisive announcement to avoid being locked out of the nomination window, especially for a contest as crucial as 2026.
