Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, has accused top political figures and the Nigerian government of being the sponsors of the protracted terrorism and insecurity in the country, noting that if they want violence to end, it will end in no time.
In a video interview that has been circulating on social media platforms since Wednesday, the Shi’ite leader also alleged that the United States created and funded Boko Haram, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
In the video clip, El-Zakzaky wondered how ordinary cattle rearers and ragtag bandits would suddenly acquire sophisticated weapons including armoured vehicles and drones in the bushes if they are not being funded by politicians in government.
“The insecurity problem in Nigeria was created by politicians in power and If they want to stop it today, they would because they are the ones who engineered it,” the Shi’ite leader said in the video footage.
“How come those people who are known to be cattle rearers have guns in the bush? How come those people they call bandits have armoured vehicles in the bushes and drones and they call them terrorists?
“Where did this tankers come from? From the earth or they moved through? Everybody knows that authorities are behind this insecurity, if they want to stop it today, they can stop it.
”By inviting the US which we know very clearly that they are behind all these insecurity, US created Boko Haram, US is funding Boko Haram, US created ISWAP, they created ISIS, and they confessed it openly.”
He added that the threat by the US to come to Nigeria and help us fight terrorism is just a rude for them to steal the country’s resources.
“They said that they would use terrorism to conquer Africa, now you expect them to bring the remedy to what they caused, what do you expect? Mass killings of people.
“They will come to steal our resources, you will see them where there is gold, oil, gas, and other security resources. That is why you will see them protecting Christians in Zamfara and Katsina.”
El-Zakzaky also questioned how rural bandits and herdsmen have gained access to sophisticated military-grade weapons, including armoured personnel carriers and anti-aircraft guns, which have been repeatedly filmed in the hands of non-state actors in the North-West and North-Central regions.
“Who is supplying tanks to herdsmen in the bush? Who is arming them with weapons that even the Nigerian Army struggles to acquire?”
