Taraba lawmaker laments killing of students, others by herders

Member, Taraba State House of Assembly representing Takum 1 constituency has lamented the continuos killing of students, women and children by herders in Chanchanji ward, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba state.

Tanko made the lamentations during plenary session at the harrow chambers of the assembly, stating that those who are constantly been killed are predominantly Tiv farmers, women, children and students from Mbayongo and Majir communities of the Chanchanji ward.

The lawmaker, who dressed in all black attire while attend the plenary session, said his dress was in a mourning mood and in solidarity with his constituents (The Tivs), who have been constantly killed in recent times.

He said over 24 communities have been sacked, many lives have been lost while properties worth millions of naira belonging to Tiv farmers have been destroyed recently.

“Crisis has immediate and remote courses. The remote courses are been handled by the local government council chairman, he is engaging the Tiv and Fulani stakeholders within the area by finding a lasting solution to the crisis.

“While the immediate courses are been tackled by the security agencies by ensuring that the destruction of properties and senseless killings have stopped.

“But am in serious mourning mood because I wake up on daily basis to watch pictures of young men and women and even some students that have their bodies cut in the process, that is why am mourning and I condemned in very strong terms that nobody should kill another person over property or even if it’s for a cow”, He said.
