“Nominate a needy family from each of the 8 constituencies in Homa Bay county for a Christmas lunch gift from me. Add the name of the subchief,” he posted. Search option is now available at TUKO! Feel free to search the content on topics/people you enjoy reading about in the top right corner 😉
He noted that the administrator’s names were to ensure transparency, explaining that some individuals might exploit such opportunities dishonestly.
Speaking exclusively with TUKO.co.ke, Owidi explained that he intended to bless one family per constituency with a cash gift of KSh 1,500.
How many people did Odoyo Owidi gift? However, the overwhelming response he received revealed a much larger number of desperate situations. As a result, he extended his generosity to more than 20 individuals, with some receiving smaller amounts of KSh 1,000 and KSh 500.
The politician stressed that his approach prioritises impactful aid for those in need rather than offering handouts to those who already have or would end up in drinking dens.
“I believe we should give where it makes the greater impact. If you have little to give and give to a person who already has, it is a waste. If you give one who is desperate for it, it reaches God. The response was overwhelming but the eight whom I had planned for each got KSh 1,500. Some people even requested me to even send them KSh 200 for tea,” he recalled. Source: Facebook What did Odoyo Owidi learn from his gesture? Owidi recounted several touching stories from beneficiaries he interacted with.
One widow with three children told him she had budgeted less than KSh 800 for Christmas and had been persistently praying to God to help her out.
With the money she received, she planned to buy her child a pair of shoes for KSh 200, a gesture that highlighted the significance of even modest support.
Another case involved a woman who requested school fees instead of a Christmas gift, underscoring the depth of challenges faced by many families in the county.
Owidi noted that most of the nominees were put forward by third parties, and their stories were so compelling that he did not need to verify them with administrators.
He added that the largest number of desperate cases came from Suba South Constituency, reflecting the uneven distribution of vulnerabilities across the county.
“Their stories touched me that I never contacted the administrators. Their voices told it all,” he revealed. Owidi’s gesture mirrored similar initiatives by leaders across the country who distributed foodstuffs and other essentials during the festive season.
His approach, however, stood out for its emphasis on identifying truly vulnerable families and tailoring assistance to their specific circumstances.
How many people did Oscar Sudi gift? Elsewhere, hundreds of residents, mostly women, flocked to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi’s homestead to receive Christmas gifts, each carrying sacks and parcels of assorted foodstuffs.
The legislator planned for at least 12,000 residents to ensure that more families could celebrate Christmas with dignity.
During the event, he urged locals to embrace unity, peace, and coexistence, stressing the importance of ending tribal divisions in the country.
