Improved Gas Supply Drives Power Generation Surge After Vandalism Repairs

ABUJA – The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has announced a significant boost in power generation, thanks to repaired vandalism damage on the Lagos-Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline and enhanced supplies to key thermal plants nationwide.

The Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) restored the critical infrastructure, enabling affected plants to ramp up operations gradually.

This cautious offtake strategy prioritizes grid stability, preventing stress on both gas networks and the national electricity system while serving industries, businesses, and households.

NISO stated that other thermal plants stand ready for integration into the grid by Saturday, December 27, pending gas supply confirmations from suppliers.

This phased approach aims to bolster overall capacity and minimize outage risks amid ongoing recovery efforts.

The operator is collaborating with power generators, gas suppliers, and regulators for real-time monitoring and issue resolution.

NISO reaffirmed its dedication to a resilient power sector supporting Nigeria’s economic growth. Consumers are urged to conserve energy as these stabilization measures advance.
