Ghana: Police arrest Canadian woman and Ghanaian partner over Oyarifa fire

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a Canadian national and her Ghanaian partner following an alleged arson incident at Oyarifa Anointed Down in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects, identified as Jennifer Mae Tomlinson and Mohammed Issah, were picked up after police investigations linked them to a fire that destroyed the apartment they were occupying as tenants.

The incident occurred on December 23, 2025 and left the property completely damaged, raising concern among residents in the area.

In a press statement issued on December 27 and signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Command confirmed that early findings suggest the fire was deliberately set.

According to the police, there was no immediate provocation leading to the destruction of the apartment, which has deepened interest in the case.

Mohammed Issah was arrested on the same day the fire occurred by officers from the Ayimensah Abokobi Police.

His partner, Jennifer Mae Tomlinson, reportedly went into hiding after the incident but was traced and arrested two days later, on December 25.

Their arrests followed coordinated efforts by investigators who were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Confirming the development, the police stated, “The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a case of causing unlawful damage at Oyarifa Anointed Down in the Greater Accra Region”.

Both suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Command has assured the public that the case will be handled in line with the law, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court once investigations are completed.
