AFCON 2025: Super Eagles To Face Mozambique In Round Of 16

Nigeria will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 stage at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 following the completion of the group stage fixtures of the tournament on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles, who finished top of Group C with a flawless record, will take on the Mambas in Fez on Monday as they begin their knockout campaign.

Nigeria secured their place among the tournament’s top seeds after beating Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda to collect a maximum nine points in the group stage. That performance set up a meeting with one of the third-placed teams from another group, with Mozambique eventually confirmed as their opponent after the final Group F matches.

In Group F, defending champions Ivory Coast pulled off a dramatic comeback from two goals down to beat Gabon 3–2, while Cameroon edged Mozambique 2–1. Those results ensured the Mambas advanced as one of the best third-placed sides.

Elsewhere, Algeria wrapped up Group E with a perfect record following a 3–1 victory over Equatorial Guinea, while Burkina Faso finished second after a 2–0 win over Sudan.

Despite Nigeria’s strong form, some fans remained cautious, recalling that the Super Eagles’ last perfect group-stage run at AFCON 2021 ended in a round-of-16 elimination.

The complete round of 16 fixtures are Mali vs Tunisia, Morocco vs Tanzania, Algeria vs DR Congo and Egypt vs Benin.

Other fixtures are Senegal vs Sudan, South Africa vs Cameroon, Burkina Faso vs Ivory Coast and Nigeria vs Mozambique.

The Super Eagles will aim to maintain their momentum when they take on Mozambique at the Fez Stadium on Monday, as they look to take another step toward reclaiming Nigeria’s glory at the continental soccer showpiece.
