Bayern Munich-Owned Goalkeeper Daniel Peretz Set To Join Southampton On Loan

Southampton are close to signing Bayern Munich-owned goalkeeper Daniel Peretz on loan in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old is currently on loan at SV Hamburg, but Bayern are looking to terminate the deal and send him away to Southampton instead.

Since dropping down from the Premier League, the Saints have struggled badly this season, and lie 13th in the Championship table.

We reported last month that Southampton had been showing interest in the Israeli goalkeeper, and now they are close to signing him on loan.

According to a report from Bild, the former Maccabi Tel Aviv keeper will move to Southampton with immediate effect.

Peretz joined Bayern from Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023 and has made only seven appearances for the senior side, failing to cement a regular starting role.

It was always going to be difficult for the goalkeeper to dislodge Manuel Neuer from the starting spot, and he was loaned to Hamburger SV this summer.

Unfortunately, he failed to manage enough game time for them as well, and Bayern have decided to let him join another club where he would get regular games.

Bayern’s goalkeeping situation
At the beginning of December, Peretz said: “I expected to be the number one. That hasn’t been the case so far. Of course, I’m not happy about it. I’m not making any secret of that. I think no footballer is satisfied when he’s not playing. My goal remains to play every game.”

Neuer has been outstanding this season for Bayern, and he has not given any hint of retirement. In all probability, the veteran German goalkeeper will be given a new contract to extend for another year.

Jonas Urbig has emerged as a strong option to eventually replace him.

Alexander Nubel, who is currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart, is another keeper whose future at the club is far from certain.
