Trump: UK lawmakers take stand on US strikes in Venezuela following Maduro’s capture

Several British lawmakers on Saturday, decried United States military intervention in Venezuela, calling on the UK government to denounce what they characterized as an “illegal assault on a sovereign nation.”

This backlash followed a message from US President Donald Trump on Truth Social, announcing the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

The Venezuelan government had previously accused the United States of targeting both civilian and military establishments across various regions, prompting it to declare a national emergency in response to the attacks.

Reacting to the development, Party member, Zarah Sultana took to X to express her outrage, labeling it “blatant U.S. imperialism: an unlawful strike on Caracas” aimed at toppling a sovereign government and exploiting its resources.

She also urged Keir Starmer’s Labour government to unequivocally condemn the actions as she offered her solidarity to the Venezuelan people.

Also reacting, Green Party leader Zack Polanski shared a similar view on X as he insisted that both Starmer and Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper must denounce the “illegal strike and breach of international human rights law.”

He criticized Trump for fueling what he called a “genocide,” suggesting that the US leader believes he can act without repercussions due to the so-called special relationship.

Similarly, Labour lawmaker Richard Burgon also condemned the strikes and described it as an “illegal” assault on a sovereign state.

He drew parallels to the Iraq war, stating, “Trump’s regime change agenda is fundamentally about controlling Venezuela’s oil—the largest reserves in the world.”
