The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria on their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, describing the team’s bronze medal finish as a proud moment that lifted national spirits.
In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the former Senate President commended the Super Eagles for their resilience, discipline, and patriotic display throughout the tournament.
He said that though Nigeria did not lift the trophy, the team secured third place after a hard-fought 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Egypt in the third-place playoff, following a goalless draw in regulation time. The statement also highlighted key moments in the team’s campaign, including a convincing 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria.
“The Super Eagles have once again lifted the spirit of our nation and reminded the world of Nigeria’s football heritage. Their performance throughout the tournament was inspiring, courageous and demonstrated the spirit of champions,” Senator Mark said.
The ADC chairman noted that the achievement comes at a time of significant national challenges, making the players’ determination and unity on the pitch even more meaningful.
“Their journey in Morocco has been a source of immense national pride,” he added. “In the face of adversity, they showed the true Nigerian character—never giving up, fighting together, and rising to the occasion.”
The Super Eagles’ bronze medal marks Nigeria’s return to the AFCON podium after several editions without reaching the semi-finals, renewing hope among fans ahead of future competitions.
