DHQ urges Nigerians to stay vigilant in public spaces

DHQ urges Nigerians to stay vigilant in public spaces

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has advised Nigerians to remain alert in crowded places such as markets, churches, and other public gatherings, stressing that vigilance is vital for personal and community safety.

In a statement released on Friday via its official X handle, the DHQ encouraged citizens to promptly report suspicious behaviour or unusual individuals to the nearest security agency.

“Remain alert in crowded places, markets, churches, and public gatherings. Promptly report any unusual behaviour or persons to the nearest security agency. Remember always maintain situational awareness,” the advisory read.

The military noted that situational awareness is a key tool in preventing crime and ensuring security in high-traffic areas. It urged Nigerians to cooperate with security personnel and take the advisory seriously to help reduce risks and protect communities nationwide.

The advisory comes amid growing concerns about threats in public spaces and forms part of broader efforts by the Nigerian military and security agencies to strengthen awareness, prevent criminal activities, and reduce incidents of violence in busy areas.

By encouraging vigilance and timely reporting, the DHQ said it aims to empower citizens as the “first line of defense” in identifying potential threats before they escalate.
