The Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the New Nigeria People’s Party and its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, despite the recent defection of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the party.
Kibiya made his position known in a letter addressed to Kwankwaso on Saturday where he pledged continued support and solidarity with the NNPP, describing the party as a platform founded on people-centred leadership, social justice and democratic values.
The commissioner said recent political developments, particularly the governor’s exit from the NNPP, had generated concerns among party members, making it necessary for him to clarify his stance.
“Notwithstanding my current role in government, I remain firmly committed to the ideals, principles, and vision upon which the NNPP was founded,” Kibiya stated, adding that the party’s values under Kwankwaso’s leadership remained central to his political belief and public service.
He praised Kwankwaso’s political resilience and sacrifices, noting that his leadership continued to inspire millions of Nigerians, and assured him of his readiness to contribute to the unity and growth of the party at what he described as a defining moment.
“I wish to unequivocally assure you of my continued allegiance to the NNPP and my personal respect and support for your leadership and guidance,” he said.
Kibiya’s declaration comes amid growing uncertainty within the NNPP in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s resignation from the party after weeks of speculation over his political future.
The governor’s defection has triggered a wave of political realignments, with several elected officials and party members declaring their positions, either aligning with Yusuf’s new political direction or reaffirming loyalty to Kwankwaso and the NNPP..
