Lagos State Police have detained a man, Kosiso Chukwem-Nenyem, for allegedly sending messages claiming bombs were planted in two schools located in Ikeja GRA last week.
Naija News reports that the arrest came as police also dismantled a criminal group known as the “one-chance” syndicate, rounding up 21 suspects in various parts of the state.

Authorities said the incidents began around 4 p.m. on January 20, 2026, when the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported receiving threatening WhatsApp messages.
The messages, sent from the same unknown number, claimed explosives had been placed inside the school compounds.
Lagos State Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh , explained that teams from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and tactical squads were immediately sent to the schools.

No explosives were found, and the areas were confirmed safe.
Investigations later led to the arrest of Chukwem-Nenyem, a resident of Okota, as the sender of the threats.
Police said the suspect initially claimed he lost his phone in November 2025, but further checks showed he had continued receiving calls from family members during the time the threats were made.

His SIM card was also recovered. Authorities noted that he acted alone and deliberately sought to create panic among school staff and parents.
He is set to face legal action.
