Sit-at-home: We’ll penalize those who did not open shops – Anambra Govt

Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on Markets, Everest Uba, has said that traders who did not open their shops on Monday will be penalized for not complying with the governor’s directives.

Uba said this on Monday when he appeared as a guest in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

He said Anambra is back and open for business, stressing that security is guaranteed.

According to him, people went shopping these past Mondays and nothing happened.

“Markets in Anambra State opened on February 2, 2026. That is like after being closed for about five years.

“So today we went around again with the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for information, and some other media people to check the level of compliance in the market.

“The main market is fully complied. About 98% of the shops were opened for activities with bustling and all that. But there’s other markets that are yet to fully comply, like Ochanja.

“Through the directives of Mr Governor,  if the markets are not opened, we’ll seal the line and let them go on holidays for about a week or two. And that is what we did today.

“We monitored, and there are some lines that have been marked for shut down because Anambra is on the rise. Anambra has come back again since Monday last week, activities are back in the market. I think the main market is bustling with activity.

“Some of them did not come to the market, but we are going to penalize them for not complying with the directive of Mr Governor,” he said.
