Sultan says moon sighted, Ramadan begins Wednesday

Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III on Tuesday confirmed the sighting of new moon and urged all Muslim ummah in Nigerian to commence Ramadan fasting from Wednesday, 18th February, 2026.

A statement signed by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman, Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, said the moon of Ramadan 1447 AH was sighted across the country on Tuesday 17th February, 2026 which is the 29th day of Sha’aban 1447 AH.

According to the moon sighting committee, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi will make the formal announcement on behalf of the Sultanw

Partof the statement read, “His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with Nigeria Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings”.

The Sultan while urging Muslim Ummah to continue to pay for peace, progress and development of the country and wish all Muslims a happy Ramadan Kareem just as he prayed Allah (SWT) accept the religious deeds of all.
