Boko Haram Claims Deadly Ngoshe Attack in Borno: Vows to Hold Eid-el-Fitr in Captured Mosque, Rename Town ‘Daular Islam’ Caliphate

MAIDUGURI (SUNDIATA POST) – Boko Haram insurgents have claimed responsibility for a deadly assault on Ngoshe town in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where they overran a military base, killed soldiers and civilians—including the chief imam and community elders—and abducted hundreds of residents, mostly women and children.

The attack occurred on Wednesday night (March 4–5, 2026), shortly after Muslims in the community broke their Ramadan fast. The terrorists reportedly beheaded some soldiers, burned homes, military equipment, and other structures, forcing thousands of survivors to flee to nearby Pulka for safety. Reports indicate at least nine soldiers were killed, alongside an unspecified number of civilians, with over 100–300 people abducted or missing.

In a propaganda video circulating online and reviewed by Daily Trust on Friday (March 6, 2026), five young men identifying themselves as members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (Boko Haram) under the leadership of Imam Abu Umaima appeared inside Ngoshe’s central mosque. Speaking in Hausa, the group’s leader boasted of their “success” in conquering the town with divine help.

He declared: “People in this town are saying that we cannot conquer Ngoshe. With the help of God, we have already conquered the town and by the grace of God, we are going to stay in Ngoshe and change its name to Daular Islam [Caliphate]. And at the end of Ramadan, we will observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayer inside Ngoshe.”

The speaker further claimed that fighters had “slaughtered” residents, abducted women and children, and enslaved them as “legal property” under their interpretation of religious law. He vowed to remain in the town—now on their third day of occupation—and expand operations toward Maiduguri and even Abuja.

The video’s date aligns with Thursday, March 6, 2026 (corresponding to 16/9/1447 in the Islamic calendar), supporting the group’s claim of holding the mosque.

This brazen assertion comes amid ongoing insecurity in Nigeria’s northeast, where Boko Haram and rival factions like ISWAP continue to exploit vulnerabilities despite military efforts. Authorities have not yet officially confirmed the terrorists’ full control or the video’s authenticity, but the incident has heightened fears in the region during Ramadan.
