Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the President Bola Tinubu administration has succeeded in “giving Nigeria back the lost hope.”
He said this during a post-project inspection tour of several road corridors in Karu, the Apo-Karshi axis, Bearing and Kubwa.
The Minister boasted that the sweeping infrastructure projects currently being executed in Abuja’s satellite towns will make it nearly impossible for any opposition to defeat Tinubu in the territory in 2027.
He argued that the visible transformation of previously “impossible” terrains into motorable roads has fundamentally changed the political landscape of the FCT.
“It would be very difficult for anybody to win an election in the FCT against Mr President, because to them (residents), it is surprising what they have seen. They have not seen it in their life,” Wike said.
He emphasised that the administration’s strategy is to break the tradition of over-concentration of development in the city centre.
By extending high-quality roads to rural communities and satellite towns, Wike said the government aims to curb rural-urban drift and stimulate local economies.
“People can now go from Kuje and go to work in the city… it will take 35 minutes, you are already in the city,” the minister observed.
He confirmed that several of these projects are being fast-tracked for inauguration to mark the president’s third year in office.
“When the people are happy, obviously, you have no choice but to be happy to know that the government is very impactful in their lives,” the Minister added.
