FG publishes list of 48 individuals, groups linked to terrorism financing, names Simon Ekpa, Tukur Mamu, IPOB

Federal Government has released a list of 48 individuals and organisations allegedly linked to terrorism financing across Nigeria, in what authorities describe as part of ongoing efforts to curb terror funding networks.

The names were made public on Saturday by the Nigeria Sanctions Committee (NIGSAC), a body responsible for implementing targeted sanctions against individuals and entities suspected of supporting terrorism and related activities.

According to the committee, those listed are believed to have played varying roles in financing or facilitating terrorism-related operations within and outside Nigeria.

The publication includes individuals and groups associated with different extremist networks, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ansaru, and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

Among those named in the sanctions list are Simon Ekpa, a Finland-based separatist agitator, and Tukur Mamu, who has previously been linked to negotiations involving terrorist groups in northern Nigeria.

Authorities said the inclusion of the individuals and entities followed intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration aimed at dismantling funding channels sustaining violent groups across the country.

The Nigeria Sanctions Committee noted that the measures are part of Nigeria’s compliance with international counter-terrorism financing frameworks and obligations.

With the publication of the list, the affected individuals and entities may face sanctions including asset freezes, travel restrictions, and enhanced financial monitoring, in line with existing anti-terrorism financing regulations.

Security analysts say the development signals a renewed push by the Federal Government to disrupt financial pipelines that enable terrorist groups to sustain operations in different parts of the country.

The release also comes amid ongoing security challenges, including insurgency in the North-East, banditry in the North-West, and separatist tensions in parts of the South-East.

Further details, including the full breakdown of the listed individuals and organisations, are expected to be made available by authorities as enforcement measures begin.
