President William Ruto is among the leaders who have expressed their condolences following the death of Paul Kareithi Muraya, the brother of gospel artist Karangu Muraya.

In a statement on Thursday, April 16, President Ruto described Paul as a hard-working and honourable Kenyan, noting his dedication as a long-distance truck driver and his commitment to his family and country.

“Paul will be remembered for his industrious spirit, his dedication as a professional long-distance truck driver, and his deep love for family and country,” the President said.

He offered prayers for comfort to the Muraya family and all who knew and loved Paul, wishing that his soul may rest in eternal peace.

“In Paul, we have lost a hard-working and honorable Kenyan. May God grant comfort to the Muraya family and all who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he said

Paul Kareithi Muraya passed away on April 14 while undergoing treatment at Mathari Hospital in Nyeri.

According to Karangu, Paul had been dealing with ongoing health complications from a road accident he was involved in on February 17, 2025.

The accident reportedly left him with injuries that required prolonged medical attention and ultimately contributed to his declining health.

Ruto’s statement emphasised the qualities that endeared Paul to his family, friends and community.

Karangu, a prominent gospel artist, mourned his brother’s death in a social media post.

“You are a fighter, even in a hospital bed, you were always smiling. I don’t know how I will accept the fact that you have gone forever. Bro, I will miss you. I will love you always. I will never forget you,” he wrote.

Well-wishers and members of the community have also been sharing messages of support for the Muraya family following the announcement of Paul’s death.

Funeral arrangements are underway as the family has started holding planning meetings.
