President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of 15 persons to constitute the board of the NHRC, a human rights commission Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out the names of the nominees during plenary on Wednesday, April 29, while reading out Tinubu’s letter seeking their screening and confirmation The list contained names of professionals such as journalists and lawyers, including prominent ones like the editor of the Vanguard newspaper President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate for the screening and confirmation of 15 nominees to constitute the board of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The development was to strengthen the human rights protection frameworks of the country. Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, read the president’s letter during the plenary on Wednesday, April 29.

The list constitutes nominees from different professional backgrounds, including legal and media sectors in the country.

Human rights records under Tinubu The appointments were the latest that President Tinubu will be announcing ahead of the 2027 general elections. The president has declared his intention to seek re-election in the next cycle of polls in the country. The human rights record would be one of the things that could determine his chances in the election.

Source: Twitter Recently, a police officer who tied, shot and killed a suspect in the Effurun area of Delta State. The suspect, identified as Mene Ogidi, was reportedly arrested while attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.
Bright Edafe, the spokesperson of the police command, announced that the officer involved would be charged with murder in an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, April 29. Edafe disclosed that the officer who pulled the trigger was ASP Nuhi Usman and has been transferred to the force headquarters in Abuja for disciplinary action.
According to the police spokesperson, the officer acted unprofessionally and that his action could not be explained except from “a spiritual perspective.” He explained that covering the face of the officer in the press state was only a professional thing to do. The claim by the police boss has sparked outrage among Nigerians, who condemned his spiritual perspective on the matter.

Police speak as Adamawa pastor killed Legit.ng earlier reported that the Adamawa state police command has confirmed the killing of a pastor, Emmanuel Ezeoikwe, on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesperson of the state police command, said that the pastor was killed at his residence in Zina village, Song LGA of the state.
The assailants were said to have visited the village at about 12.30 am and shot the pastor, as recounted by the villagers.
