Champions League: Arsenal, Atletico play draw in first-leg

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman was in action for Atletico Madrid as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Arsenal in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal tie.

The Gunners had beaten Sporting in the last eight, while Atletico knocked out Barcelona in a tie laden with controversies.

Viktor Gyokeres won and scored a spot-kick for Arsenal just one minute before the break after he went down under a challenge from David Hancko.

But Julian Alvarez levelled the score 11 minutes into the second half with a penalty awarded following a video assistant referee review.

Lookman made fine attempts, forcing David Raya into a save.

Gabriel Magalhaes also produced an excellent block to deny Antoine Griezmann from the rebound.

Both sides meet again at the Emirates Stadium next week Tuesday.

The winners of this tie will face Paris St-Germain or Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on 30 May.
