The governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State ended in a resounding victory for Sarafadeen Alli, who emerged as the party’s flagbearer after polling an overwhelming 578,143 votes across the state.
Alli defeated other aspirants by a wide margin in the keenly contested exercise. Senator Buhari secured 37,265 votes, while former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, garnered 19,193 votes.
The outcome of the primary triggered jubilation among supporters and loyalists of the APC stalwart, with party faithful celebrating what many described as a strong endorsement of Alli’s political strength and grassroots appeal ahead of the governorship election.
Reacting to the victory, prominent businessman and Okanlomo Oodua/Bada Olubadan, Dotun Sanusi, said the landslide triumph reflected the confidence and trust party members have in Alli’s leadership capacity and vision for the development of Oyo State.
Observers say the decisive victory has further positioned the APC for a fierce political battle in the state as preparations begin in earnest for the next governorship election.
