Egypt has confirmed that they have been asked by FIFA to remove the seven stars that are usually on their jersey. The Pharaohs always spot the stars on their jerseys that represent their continental supremacy, having won the Africa Cup of Nations seven times.

FIFA has, however, banned teams from using the stars that show continental titles on their jersey, insisting that the stars will be a preserve for teams that have won the World Cup.

Egypt have also been asked to change the colours of players’ numbers on their shirts from gold to white, which is clearer according to Ahram Online.

Defending champions Argentina will have three stars, while 2014 winners Germany will have four stars. France and Uruguay have two titles each, while Spain and England have one title each.

Italy was the only country to have previously won the World Cup that didn’t qualify this time. They have four titles to their name.

Which other country had to change their World Cup kit? Haiti was also asked to remove the ‘political elements’ from their kit as they prepare for their first appearance since 1974.

FIFA were against the silhouettes inspired by the Battle of Vertières and the Haitian Revolution.

Who will Egypt face at World Cup 2026? The Mohamed Salah-led team will open their campaign against Belgium in Seattle on June 15 before they face New Zealand in Vancouver seven days later.

Their last group stage game will be against Iran in Seattle again.
