KENYA: Ruto: God Made Me President for a Reason, and I Will Not Slow Down

President William Ruto says his leadership is guided by a divine purpose. He added that he made a deliberate choice to lead the country, aiming to accelerate national development and strengthen Kenya’s economic and social progress.

Speaking during a fundraiser at the Seventh-day Adventist Nkarusha in Kajiado County on Sunday, President Ruto said the conviction drives him to go the extra mile in carrying out his duties. He also stated that he remains committed to giving his best for Kenya to make progress.

“There must be a reason God has made me president in Kenya at a time like this, and that is why I go the extra mile; I do my very best to make sure that Kenya becomes a country that we can all be proud of,” said Ruto.

Ruto also responded to critics who have questioned his extensive travel schedule, saying their complaints stem from poor planning and foster negligence and laziness among his detractors.

Ruto defended his foreign trips, arguing that Kenya needs hard work. “When you look at my diary, it is full for the next six months. Daily because for this country to change, there must be hard work. We have delayed; there are countries that we were at par with 60 years ago,” Ruto said.

He pointed to countries including Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia, urging Kenya to intensify its development efforts and match their progress or surpass similar levels of economic advancement.

Ruto said he will travel to France to represent 54 nations at the G7 meeting, adding that his main focus will be on how to harness Africa’s vast resources, land, and human capital to drive transformation across the continent and strengthen relationships with the rest of the world.
