AUGUSTA, Ga. – An Augusta resident has been handed down a nearly six-year federal prison sentence for charges related to illegal firearm possession, as confirmed by the United States Department of Justice on Wednesday.
Chauncey Lavon Feby, aged 20, has been sentenced to 71 months in prison and imposed with a $1,500 fine. Following his prison term, he will be subject to three years of supervised release. Feby entered a guilty plea for the charge of Illegal Possession of a Machinegun.
The incident leading to his arrest occurred in November 2024, in Richmond County. Authorities discovered that Feby possessed a Glock Model 45, a 9 mm pistol. This firearm had been illegally modified with an auto sear, a device that turns a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic machinegun.
U.S. Attorney Margaret Heap expressed the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to curb the circulation of such dangerous weapons. “We will continue to support our law enforcement partners in their efforts to remove these dangerous weapons from the streets and to keep our communities safe,” she stated. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office remains committed to holding accountable those that unlawfully possess these lethal weapons.”
