Kwara: NSCDC Arrests Man For Alleged Defilement Of 14-Year-Old Pupil

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested a 43-year-old non-teaching staff member of a public primary school in Ilorin for alleged defilement of a 14-year-old female pupil.

The suspect, identified as Amuda Kamaldeen Olubukola, was apprehended following a complaint lodged with the Gender Unit of the NSCDC Kwara State Command, which immediately launched an investigation into the allegation.

According to findings from the preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the victim, a Primary Four pupil, on several occasions inside his office within the school premises.

The victim reportedly told investigators that the suspect repeatedly promised to marry her before allegedly abusing her. She further alleged that he covered her mouth during the incidents to stop her from crying out for help.

The alleged abuse came to light after the girl’s mother reported that her daughter had become pregnant, prompting the authorities to commence an investigation.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to the allegation but attempted to explain his actions by claiming they were “the work of the devil.”

Reacting to the incident, the Kwara State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Abbas Nda Mohammed, described the alleged act as a serious violation of the rights and dignity of a child, stressing that the Command would not tolerate any form of abuse against minors.

“Schools are meant to nurture, protect and inspire children, not expose them to abuse. Any individual who preys on the innocence of a child, particularly within the school environment, has committed a grave offence against society and will be made to face the full weight of the law,” the Commandant said.

Mohammed disclosed that investigations were at an advanced stage and assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court immediately after the completion of the necessary legal processes.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to protecting children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
