France Cruise Into Knockout Stage With Dominant 4-1 Victory Over Norway

June 26, (THEWILL) — France underlined their FIFA World Cup title credentials with a commanding 4-1 victory over Norway on Friday night, wrapping up their Group I campaign in emphatic fashion with a performance that showcased their attacking quality and tactical superiority.

Les Bleus seized control from the opening whistle and barely allowed Norway time to settle. Their early pressure paid off in the seventh minute when they opened the scoring before doubling their advantage just 13 minutes later to put the Scandinavians firmly on the back foot.

Norway briefly threatened to make a contest of the encounter after pulling a goal back in the 21st minute, offering hope of an unlikely comeback. However, France responded with the composure expected of tournament favourites, restoring their two-goal cushion in the 32nd minute to head into the interval leading 3-1.

The second half saw Didier Deschamps’ side expertly manage the game while continuing to dictate possession. A series of substitutions slowed the tempo, but France still found time to add a fourth goal in stoppage time, putting the finishing touches on an outstanding team display.

France dominated the statistics throughout the contest, enjoying 57 per cent possession while producing 19 shots, including 10 on target. Norway managed 10 attempts, five of them on target, but struggled to contain the relentless French attack led by Kylian Mbappé and supported brilliantly by Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise and Désiré Doué.
