The entertainment world of DWTS is mourning the loss of one of its cherished figures, prompting heartfelt tributes on social media from both past and present members of the show.
Tom Bergeron, the original host of the show, took to Instagram on June 25 to remember Harold Wheeler’s immense contribution. “In 2005, when you first heard the music of @dancingwiththestars, it was coming from Harold Wheeler and his orchestra,” he reminisced. “There was nothing I loved more than causing Harold and his orchestra to crack up during dress rehearsals. Of course, savoring their exceptional talent was a close second. #RIP my friend.”
Adding to the chorus of admiration, former professional dancer and current judge Derek Hough highlighted Wheeler’s role in creating the magic known to fans of the show.
In his own Instagram remembrance shared on June 25, Hough celebrated Wheeler’s legendary status across various iconic platforms, from the Oscars to the DWTS stage. “I’ll always treasure the early days when I sent him ideas, and the unforgettable moment when Shawn and I accidentally rolled into his band pit,” Hough recalled alongside a video of Wheeler’s orchestra playing as he danced. “Harold, thank you for the music, the kindness, and the memories. Rest in peace, my friend.”
