2027: Opposition using insecurity to attack Tinubu — Gadgi

By Lawrence Agbo

A member of the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gadgi, has accused opposition politicians of exploiting insecurity challenges to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, the lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State argued that while insecurity remains a major concern, some critics of the government appear more interested in turning the crisis into a political weapon than proposing solutions.

Gadgi said it was unpatriotic for anyone to hope that the worsening security situation would weaken the current administration or improve the opposition’s electoral prospects.

“They have fallen into the hands of the opposition, who are playing politics with the lives of Nigerians. If anybody from my party is thinking that this is what will consume the present administration, it means those people are not patriotic,” he said.

The APC lawmaker further alleged that some opposition figures seemed pleased by the country’s security difficulties because they believed it could damage the government’s popularity.

“From the tone of some people who are supposed to be leaders of this country, you will see that they seem to appreciate the situation Nigeria is going through. Instead of lamenting and providing solutions, they tie it to the fact that the government is defective in solving the problem just to achieve some political gain,” Gadgi stated.

He also questioned why insecurity appeared to have intensified as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gathered momentum, suggesting that the timing deserved closer scrutiny.

According to him, Nigerians should continue to hold the government accountable while resisting attempts to politicise national security for electoral advantage.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over renewed attacks by bandits and other armed groups in several parts of the country, with many Nigerians urging the Federal Government to adopt more decisive measures to tackle insecurity.

President Bola Tinubu had recently warned bandits, kidnappers and terrorists to surrender or face the full force of the law, but critics have continued to fault the administration’s handling of the country’s security crisis, arguing that stronger action is needed to stem the violence.
