Mikel Arteta provides ‘worrying’ injury update on Leandro Trossard but Arsenal in Gabriel Jesus boost as he’s pictured in Arsenal kit on pitch

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed Leandro Trossard’s injury he picked up in the 3-2 win against Bournemouth is a ‘worry’.

The Belgian forward hobbled off in the 22nd minute in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over the Cherries after pulling up unchallenged.

Trossard had started the last three games for the Gunners where he had been impressing in the false nine role.

And with Eddie Nketiah nursing a slight ankle knock, Arsenal fans will be sweating over who leads the line with Gabriel Jesus not yet ready to return.

Arsenal face Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League on Thursday, before pitting their wits against Fulham at Craven Cottage next week.

Providing an update on Trossard’s fitness in his post-match press conference, Arteta said: “It is a worry.

“He came to me straight away and told me he could not continue because he had felt something when he was tracking back after the corner.

“We have to assess him and see how he is.”

Arteta could now use Gabriel Martinelli as Arsenal’s centre-forward for the foreseeable future.

But the Spaniard will be hoping to have Jesus back soon with the Brazilian edging closer to a return to action.

Having not played for Arsenal since before the World Cup break due to a knee injury, the 25-year-old is set to be involved for the crucial end of season run-in.

And in a huge boost for the north Londoners, Jesus was involved in Arsenal’s warm-down following their five-goal thriller against Bournemouth at the Emirates.

Wearing Arsenal training gear, the ex-Manchester City striker was spotted jogging across the pitch alongside his teammates.

It remains to be seen when exactly the player will be back, with Arteta revealing earlier in the week it won’t be long.

He remarked: “He’s not far now. I don’t want to give a timeline but he’s doing certain things with the team and certain things outside the team.

“He’s not very close but he’s not very far. The doctors are feeling confident with how he’s evolving.

“It’s been pretty straightforward. At the beginning we were pretty concerned and thankfully it wasn’t that bad.

“Gabi has been through that before, his mentality is incredible and the team has done a really good job with him.”
