A nursing mother is said to have abandoned her baby boy while fleeing hoodlums known as Sara-Suka who had invaded her area in Minna, Niger State.
The incident occurred on Thursday in the Gbeganu area, when hoodlums attacked residents and burgled shops in large numbers.
The woman, who had been cut up in the attack, was unable to run with her baby because she fell to the ground and let go of the baby.

Mallam Abdullahi Ibrahim, the leader of the Gbeganu-Sir-Block Industry community, confirmed that it took the intervention of vigilantes and anti-drug corps personnel – a private security outfit – to rescue the baby and transport him to a hospital.
“Our community was previously known to be very peaceful. However, the area has become dangerous. We couldn’t sleep for the past two days. A woman was fleeing because of these boys who invaded our area and threw away her little baby boy, which she was holding.
That day, it was vigilantes and the Anti-Drug Corps (ADC) who came to our aid. The baby was taken to the hospital and is now doing well. But we haven’t had any peace of mind,” he said.
“There was a time these hoodlums came to our community and burgled six shops,” Ibrahim said, appealing to the state government and security operatives for assistance. They also assaulted and injured one of the shop owners before stealing items from his store. The shopkeeper was hospitalized for three days.”
“Last week, these hoodlums unleashed mayhem on my community,” Dr Malik Abdulganiyu of Unguwan Zaka, Gbeganu, said. They used weapons and operated at night. It’s a shame that these children are allowed to hurt us.”
Zaka, who urged parents to persuade their children to stop their nefarious activities because “parents cannot claim to be unaware of this development,” also urged the government to create jobs and engage youths to reduce restiveness and idleness, noting that each time they began, residents were not spared, resulting in the loss of lives and property.
