Graham Potter has been sacked so Chelsea are looking for a new manager; there is one very clear and overwhelming favourite.
Rankings are on the best odds available from Oddschecker.
1) Julian Nagelsmann
‘This feels like a very obvious point to make but…surely Julian Nagelsmann isn’t actually going to be Tottenham manager, is he?’ is what we wrote earlier this week.
Is he f***. We knew he could do better. We just didn’t know it was going to be that obvious that quickly.
The sacked Bayern Munich manager is odds-on to take over at Chelsea. Could another German come in and win the Champions League?
2) Bruno Saltor
Nobody expects the former Brighton defender to be the actual next permanent manager of Chelsea but being in charge for 10 competitive games would be enough to earn him that title in betting terms. And he might well get that.
3) Luis Enrique
The former Spain boss has been mentioned several times in recent weeks as Graham Potter teetered on the edge of the sack at Chelsea. He wants to get back into club management and this could be just the project. It’s just unlucky that he is competing with Nagelsmann.
4) Mauricio Pochettino
High in the betting for both this and the Spurs job, though you get the feeling it’s by virtue of being a highly rated manager who has not yet coached at Chelsea than any desire to actually appoint him.
5) Jose Mourinho
Here he is. Could a third spell at Stamford Bridge be in the offing for one of Chelsea’s favourite sons? It would be quite the statement from the new owners who are trying not to be anything like the old owners but are actually acting very like the old owners.
6) Zinedine Zidane
He has consistently said he has no interest in working in the Premier League and yet here he is again, linked with a Premier League job.
7) Brendan Rodgers
A former Chelsea coach but this looks like a question of availability and timing. Having appointed a successful Brighton manager, imagine the fan backlash if Chelsea then appointed a failing Leicester boss?
8) Diego Simeone
An intriguing prospect because his style is so far removed from that of Potter and yet it is unquestionably effective. He is one of the few managers who absolutely would not struggle with the usual Chelsea ego issues. He would last about seven minutes before lamping Todd Boehly.
9) Oliver Glasner
According to reports in Germany, the Eintracht Frankfurt manager is on Chelsea’s shortlist to replace Potter. Does he count as another ‘shiny new toy from Germany’ even though he is Austrian?
10) Ruben Amorim
There were reports that the Sporting boss was lined up to replace Potter even before Potter was appointed. He was also strongly linked with the Tottenham job on the back of beating Arsenal in the Europa League.
