South-Africa: La Liga table 2022/23: Updated standings for title race, top 4, and relegation survival

Barcelona are 15 points ahead of second-place Real Madrid and are well on their way toward winning the La Liga title with 11 matches left in the season. Barca beat Elche on the road 4-0 and get set to welcome Girona on April 10.

All Real Madrid can do is to keep winning their league matches, and they did just that blanking Real Valladolid 6-0. With a massive deficit to make up, Real Madrid are more likely to concentrate their efforts on the Copa del Rey semifinal (April 5) and Champions League quarter finals against Chelsea (April 12 and April 18).

In the race for the other top four spots, Atletico Madrid occupy a solid position in third place, winners of four straight league matches. But the fourth and final Champions League berth is up for grabs with three clubs in the running: Real Sociedad (4th), Real Betis (5th), and Villarreal (6th). Villarreal’s win over Real Sociedad has blown the race wide open, but the Yellow Submarine next face a difficult trip to face Real Madrid on April 8.

At the bottom of the table, there are six clubs within three points, all hoping to avoid joining Elche in the bottom three places. All eyes are on giants Valencia, who are just above the relegation zone on goal difference and meet fellow relegation strugglers Almeria on Sunday.

The Sporting News will continue to track of the 2022/23 La Liga standings below.
