Nigeria’s campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) gathered fresh momentum on Friday night, January 10, as billionaire industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu announced a huge financial reward for the Super Eagles following their emphatic quarter-final win over Algeria.
Moments after Nigeria sealed a 2-0 win to book a place in the semi-finals, Rabiu revealed a cash incentive package running into millions of dollars, aimed at spurring the team towards continental glory.
“Congratulations to our Super Eagles players on a brilliant victory against Algeria,” Rabiu wrote on 𝕏.
“You have lifted the spirit of the nation, and we proudly cheer you on as you prepare for the semi-finals.
“To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored.
“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.
“Wishing you continued success as you carry Nigeria forward.
“Keep making Nigeria proud.”
Naija News reports that the pledge followed a confident display by the Super Eagles, who brushed aside Algeria to secure their place in the last four of the tournament.
Nigeria struck twice early in the second half to put the game beyond reach. Just two minutes after the restart, Victor Osimhen rose unchallenged to nod home from close range after a teasing cross from Bruno Onyemaechi had undone the Algerian defence.
The pressure never relented, and Nigeria doubled their advantage in the 57th minute. Osimhen turned provider, threading a precise pass into the path of Akor Adams, who wrong-footed the goalkeeper with a neat move before calmly lifting the ball into the net.
Algeria attempted to rally but found Nigeria’s defensive shape and intensity too much to handle. The Super Eagles controlled possession, dictated the tempo and looked comfortable even as the North Africans introduced fresh legs in search of a response.
With the 2-0 win, the Super Eagles of Nigeria advance to the semi-finals of the 2025 AFCON, where a highly anticipated clash against the hosts, Morocco awaits them on Wednesday, January 14.
