Abusive ex-husband kills pregnant woman in South Africa

Ntombizodwa Khumalo, a 35-year-old pregnant South African woman was killed by her abusive ex-husband.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, Women For Change, an NGO working for the protection of women’s constitutional rights in South Africa, shared her photo.

LIB previously reported that Khumalo was killed on 5 April 2023 at Brits Hospital in North West by Jonnas Tebogo Mpete, 39, a police officer.

Ntombizodwa was eight months pregnant and worked as a hospital desk operator.Women For Change is a non-profit organization that advocates for the protection of women’s constitutional rights.

The suspect, who was stationed at Rapid Rail in Silverton, reportedly threatened her for months before shooting her down in full view of the hospital’s personnel and patients.

He allegedly surrendered to police after contacting a family member and informed them that he killed Ntombizodwa.

Ntombizodwa allegedly married her ex-husband in 2016, but five years later, when the violence became more severe, she left him.

Her relatives said she had bruises all over her body and that they attempted to intervene several times. In 2021, the Ntombizodwa allegedly secured a protective order against the accused.

Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and charged with premeditated murder at the Brits Magistrates’ Court last month.

The court was also informed that the ex-wife secured a protection order against the accused in 2021.
